Why transparent flexible mesh screens are becoming the top choice for urban renovation

Leave a message

In the past five years, if you have seen some old buildings suddenly come to life in the night sky of Shanghai, Shenzhen, Chongqing, the United States, Spain, Japan, Dubai, and Riyadh, as if the entire building had been lit up like a breathing lamp, it is highly likely that they have not been fitted with new glass curtain walls, but have quietly replaced with a layer of almost invisible transparent flexible mesh screens.
It weighs only 1/12 of a traditional LED curtain wall screen, but has a high light transmittance of 60% -90%. When installed, it does not require moving a brick or tile, adding a ton of steel structure, or even parking spaces. After completion, its existence is almost imperceptible during the day, but at night it can instantly give a 30-year-old office building a media facade that is even more explosive than a new landmark.
This is not a science fiction film, this is what is happening in hundreds of urban renewal projects across the country in 2025.

The three most awkward bottlenecks in renovating old buildings are the complete collapse of traditional solutions

The most difficult bone to crack in urban renewal is always the renovation of the exterior facades of existing buildings. The developer, urban investment, street office, property management, and design institute, five parties sitting together, can never escape these three dead ends:
Cannot significantly block light
If the natural lighting in office buildings, hotels, hospitals, and schools drops by more than 10%, the rent will immediately plummet and the owners will collectively riot. Traditional glass curtain wall screens, perforated aluminum panel screens, and strip screens generally have a light transmittance of 30% -60%, and are directly sentenced to death.
Cannot significantly worsen
In the 1980s and 1990s, the original design load did not take into account the steel structure and screen body weighing tens of tons. Reinforce one floor for at least 5000 yuan/square meter, with budgets often in the tens of millions, and the finance department directly vetoes it.
We cannot demolish or rebuild extensively
The building is still in normal use, the shopping mall is open as usual, and the office building is bustling with people. Who dares to close the building for half a year? From the day the scaffolding was erected, the traditional plan was doomed to lose control of the project schedule, complaints, and coordination costs.
Over the past two decades, these three bottlenecks have caused 90% of exterior media transformation projects to be stillborn. Those who can survive are either government image projects that cost a lot of money financially, or projects forcefully promoted by developers and property owners. Ordinary existing assets can only sigh with disappointment.
Until the transparent flexible grid screen appears, all the knots are untied at once.

90%+high transparency hardcore secret: pixels are lighter than mosquito legs

The transmittance of traditional LED curtain wall screens cannot be improved, and the fundamental reason is that the three entities of "lamp beads+PCB board+frame" block the light.
The transparent flexible grid screen directly threw away all three things:
●Lamp beads: using micro pitch inverted COB, directly fixed on flexible card strips
●Line: Imported high and low temperature waterproof wire is used, and professional waterproof joints are matched
●Fixed: The entire screen is fixed with 2mm steel wire rope and clamps to hold the lights in place, like a huge "luminous screen window"

The measured data comes from a 1998 office building renovation project in Futian, Shenzhen in August 2025:
Before replacement: the original aluminum plate+strip screen, the indoor illumination decreased from 680 lux to 410 lux, and the tenant complaint rate soared by 42%.
After replacement: P150 transparent flexible grid screen (with a light transmittance of 90%) was installed, and the indoor illumination only decreased by 4.7% (from 680lux to 648lux), with almost no noticeable change.
Standing across the street during the day, you can't even tell that this building has changed its' skin '.

True zero steel structure installation: 1000 square meters completed in 5 days, without occupying any parking spaces

Traditional outdoor screen installation process:
Tower crane → anchoring points on exterior walls → welding steel keel → hoisting box body → wiring → debugging patterns
If any link goes wrong, the construction period will be delayed for 6-12 months.
Installation process of transparent flexible mesh screen (real case record):
●Day 1: Use a high-altitude spider crane to lift the mesh screen (each roll is 1.6m wide, 100m long, and weighs 180kg) that has been rolled up onto the rooftop.
●Day 2-3: Four groups of workers roll down from the roof in sequence, like wallpaper, and use double clamps to fix the steel wire rope to the original glass curtain wall or stone keel.
●Day 4-5: Connect the aviation plug, connect the 24V power supply, and power on for debugging.
Because the entire screen can be rolled up and transported like a curtain, with a maximum single piece area of up to 3000 square meters, there is no need for large lifting equipment on site, even tower cranes are saved.

Three benchmark cases of urban renewal that have been implemented (all available for on-site inspection)

1. Ethiopian Building Project (to be completed by August 2025)
Original pain points: areas without fixed grid screens, limited budget, and the need for clear animation effects
After renovation: P100 flexible mesh screen is recommended, with a steel structure built behind it to fix the led mesh screen, with a total area of 1200 square meters,
Result: The overall lighting effect is very good, and the entire building is full of a sense of technology. The customer is very satisfied

2. Singapore 60th Anniversary Celebration Project (to be completed in early October 2025)
Original pain points: The project location is close to the water, and there are concerns about water and fog entering the lighting fixtures. There are also issues with strong winds, such as unstable fixation of the lighting fixtures, and the need to light them up during the day
After renovation: replaced with P55 mesh screen, visible during the day, product level is IP67, anti salt and anti fog, and adopts back sealing, completely airtight, to achieve ultimate reliability
Result: The 60th anniversary celebration was successfully held, attracting many people to come and watch, like watching a performance

3. Dubai Global Village Underwater Project in Saudi Arabia (to be completed by the end of October 2025)
Original pain point: The previously purchased lighting fixtures have been in use for a long time, and some of them are broken. The lighting effect is not very good and they are used underwater, requiring an IP68 rating
Renovation plan: Replace the entire pool with an IP68-P125 flexible grid screen, with a total area of 6000 square meters and a light transmittance of 85%.
Result: At night, it became the brightest landmark of Dubai Global Village Amusement Park, creating a unique light show and increasing daily foot traffic by 11%.

Finally: Incremental opportunities in the stock era

There are over 7 billion square meters of existing commercial buildings in China, and more than 90% of the facades are currently or will soon face renovation needs.
Traditional solutions are either too expensive, too heavy, and too congested, or the construction period is too long and the risk is too high, ultimately leading to aging.
The transparent flexible grid screen, for the first time, transformed the "media oriented facade transformation" from a "luxury item" to a "must-have standard".
It allows a 30-year-old building to achieve a more stunning nighttime expression than a new landmark in just a few weeks, with a budget of tens of thousands or millions, while maintaining its original lighting and temperament during the day.
This is not a simple screen upgrade,
This is a silent revolution about how existing buildings can regain commercial value and urban aesthetics without disturbing residents, increasing structural burden, and sacrificing natural lighting.
In 2026, the night sky of your city will be completely different due to these almost invisible yet ubiquitous transparent grid screens.
We are ready.
